Hi my name is Alma from FMC South Austin. I am planning to have our clinic in "Save the vein campaign" program. I just want to know exactly, is the wristband worn only by patients who will undergo vascular access creation or also by pts with stable avf and avg already? Thank you in advance.

The STV wristbands were designed to be utilized by kidney patients who are in stage 3-4 in order to preserve the veins prior to an AVF/AVG being placed. Many of these same patients have continued to use the same wristband once they reach ESRD and become dialysis patients. They very often use is on the arm that their AVF/G is placed to make sure that someone doesn't accidentally draw blood or start an IV that might compramise their access.
Wearing the wristband is also a good way for patients to advertise to other kidney patients (ESRD or CKD) the importance of vein preservation.
