Join Acadiana#252 in celebrating National Kidney Month

March 1st marks the beginning of National Kidney Month…….a time to raise awareness of kidney diseases….and a special opportunity to learn about research, education, advocacy, support, and awareness.

More than 31 million adults in the US (one in six) have a chronic kidney disease and most of them are not even aware of it. Often there are no symptoms until kidney disease reaches the later stages of renal failure.

Louisiana Kidney Facts:

According to the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Network #13, there are 7,520 people in the state with ESRD. The causes of ESRD in Louisiana are Diabetic nephropathy, Glomerulonephritis , Primary Hypertensive Disease, and Polycystic Disease. In 2007, there were 2,217 newly diagnosed chronic ESRD patients in the state of Louisiana. This number will continue to grow every year unless we as health care providers educate, support, advocate, and bring awareness to our communities!

For more information on Kidney Disease, visit your local renal department, a dialysis clinic, or the web site at esrdnetwork13.org  or annanurse.org.

*Research your state---Copy and Paste this in various sites to raise awareness. Post in your Face Book, hospital newsletters, your local newspaper, community bulletin boards, e-mail to your state politicians, etc.

Be a part of solution, Be an advocate.
