Weekly or Biweekly Hgb levels?

By Kathryn Brown posted 07-25-2011 08:04

We currently do H&H's every week, but are considering changing to every other week. What is the current practice in most units. If doing weekly how do you coincide with your montly labs so they are not be done 2 weeks in a row?  Thanks

We alos do H&H every 2 weeks. If the patient's ESA is on hold then an H&H is done every week to monitor.

Kathryn,
We do ours every 2 weeks. The first week of the month is the monthly lab draws and then two weeks later we do an H&H only. According to Connie Brown from Amgen, a H&H every 2 weeks is sufficient. The human body takes several weeks to respond to epo. If you change a dose one week, then do an H&H the next week, it will not show the effect of the changed epo dose. Hope that helps
