Emergency Takeoff Education

I would like to know what other units are doing as far as educating patients how to disconnect themselves from the machine in case of an emergency. What do you have in the take off kits and where is it kept during treatments?  Thanks

Hi Kathryn
I presented on emergency preparedness for nephrology nurses at the 2011 ANNA Fall meeting. I shared a lot of resources with participants. One being the Kidney Emergency Response Coalition (KCER) website. www.kcercoaliton.com The new edition of the Diaster Prepardenss Guide for Chronic Dialysis Facilities can be found on that site. I have provided a direct link http://www.kcercoalition.com/pdf/Disaster_Preparedness_-_A_Guide_for_Chronic_Dialysis_Facilities_-_Second_Edition.pdf This guide should have information related to staff education and patient disconnect. I hope this helped
