Epogen administration

Does anyone out there have any idea or any evidence to show whether or not epogen is dialyzable? Does it matter whether an epogen injection is given IV at the start of a hemodialysis treatment or toward the end? This have been an area of conflict between some of the staff on my unit. If you have any info on it would you send me a response?
Thanks

We used to be told that EPO was dialyzable so we always gave it at the end of the treatment, but the newest findings contradict that (if I can find the site that I read this, I will send you the link). Now we can give it anytime during the treatment, and because we give it in the saline line and it goes through the dialyzer and venous drip chamber, we really try to give it as early in the treatment as possible because any clotting in that venous drip chamber and/or dialyzer could potentially decrease the amount of EPO that your patient is getting if it sticks to the clots and can't get through the rest of the extracorporeal circuit. Does that make sense? Of course, you have to follow your own clinic's policies and procedures..................
