CDN EXAM

By Martha Atwill posted 01-22-2010 07:42

Good morning, my name is Martha.  I work as an acute care dialysis nurse and plan to take the CDN exam in March.  I'm looking for anyone who has taken the CDN exam and would be willing to give me some pointers/ideas on the test.  As the date gets closer the more my anxiety increases. I'm in my tenth year of dialysis and at this time feel like I know nothing.  If anyone can help I would certainly appreciate it.  Have a great day.

I took the CDN two years ago, and I was nervous. I am a manager and hadn't actually done "hands on" in years. The hardest part was transplantation and CAPD; study the meds for transplantation and side effects, and CAPD, just know what the peritoneum does and if something comes loose. Its pretty much common sense, just make an educated guess and you'll do fine.

I followed your advise and took all the self test in the core curriculum book also. I took the CDN exam on 3/7/10 and passed. I am so excited. Thanks for the support

Martha, The one item that was the most help to me when preparing to take the certification exam was the Nephrology Nursing Certification Review Guide. This guide can be purchased from ANNA's web site (click on 'resources', then 'store'). It has practice questions - and the answers. I suggest that you take each question and see if you are correct - if so, go on to the next, if not - go back to the Core Curriculum and read the section on the topic of the question again. If a chapter is having a review course that is close to you, that can help as well. Good luck and please let me know the outcome!
