Bed Bugs

I had a patient that had bed bugs and they were very difficult to kill.  The exterminator has to be very persistent.  At the time I learned that in the home they lay eggs along the side of the mattress.  An airtight cover on the mattress could eliminate the eggs.  Unfortunately the problem will be in the home.  Also the bugs do not fly, so they have to crawl.  To get to the bed they crawl up the legs of the bed.  I read that putting a lid full of Vaseline under each leg of the bed and keeping all sheets and blankets off the floor will prevent them from getting back to the bed which ultimately gets them back to their food supply which is the person.  In the unit the exterminator may have to come in several times.  The eggs are pinhead black dots, of course they would need to be washed off of chairs.  So a good check of all chairs all of their creases and seams would be necessary.  I hope this helps.
