Follow up ...An Acute Dialysis experience

By Oscar Glorioso posted 08-21-2009 23:07

Wow, five months!

Thankfully, I have satisfactorily breezed through the process of being an orientee. My supervisor is keen to put me soon for the on call rota.

As I venture more often to various ICU floors, perform bedside treatment and put into pratice your suggestions. My rapport with few ICU RN have changed. I noticed that they would make small conversations or would communicate vital informations to help me with the dialysis. However, the rest maintained the same approach as I have shared on my previous blog.

Then an idea strucked me...silly it may seem.

Perhaps, the majority of our ICU RN colleagues lack the perception of what our specialty is for.Harsh, but this is how I felt it.
There maybe no established data that can prove my personal anecdote is valid or universal to all Acute Dialysis nurse nationwide. So my claims is would be just an isolated case.Statistically insignificant.

What if a simple research would be conducted on this topic. What impact shall the result bring? Its not as hot as Hollywood glitz but definitely a headline for the nursing community-I cannot wait to be a witness.

And this is just an idea...

Hi Oscar, It is interesting to read your blogs. I have been a dialysis nurse for years and still get the same response. I do believe it is because they have no idea of what dialysis is and what our job entails. Continue to smile and show them you are intelligent and can make good decisions and that you are there for one purpose-the patient.

Oscar, so glad you're surviving, hope it's getting better! I love the idea of collecting that kind of research. Maybe you could contact someone on the Research Committee for some guidance on how to set up the study.
