Health Policy Workshop 2009

This HPW was one of the best I have attended.  It is always a great time being in Washington, DC with everyone and getting to go to "The Hill" to speak with our legislators and/or their aides. This year the PA contingent had six meetings scheduled. Basically we did a divide and conquer, two of us, Eileen Lynch (Keystone) and Debbie Brouwer (Three Rivers) went off to see Rep. Chakka Fattah and Sen. Casey while Nida Quirong-Jones (Keystone) and I went off to meet with Rep. Sestak and Rep. Patrick Murphy. Together we met with Rep. Jason Altmire (up close and personal) and Senator Specter.  It was a busy morning but worth the time we spent speaking to the LA's and Representatives.
When I got home on Tuesday night I was surfing through the stations on TV and came upon C-Span...not my favorite station, but there was Rep. Altmire having a heated debate about the health policy reform issues with the representative from CT.  What caught my ear was the fact that he was stating and debating the same issues we had discussed with him in his office not 12 hours earlier...our government at work!
It was great being with everyone and we can only hope that we have made an impact on our legislators and how they will support ESRD and nursing!

Paula,
It is wonderful to know you impacted public policy. Health Policy Workshop is definetly something not to be missed, it is an excellent way to learn how ANNA works to promote nephrology on the "hill".
