Does anyone hemodialyze more than one patient at a time in CCU/ICU?  I would appreciate any response.  Thank you.

We staff 1:1 in the ICU, and the patient also has an ICU RN to care for him/her. Plenty of times I've gone to the ICU to run a "stable" patient and the patient crashed. I would not want to be responsible for the outcomes if I had been trying to provide care for more than one ICU patient.

We have a 1:1 ratio for all IU/ICU patients. These patients have their primary nurse and the dialysis nurse is responsible only for dialysis. Tertiary teaching hospital.

Even though that patient has an assigned ICU RN? We've dialyzed 2 patients in ICU with one nurse, as long as they are in close proximity to one another for the past year. We've had no issues, and the ICU nurses have never had an issue with it.

I work for FMC acute program in MN. We only do HD as a 1:1 in any intensive care unit, no matter how "stable" the patient may seem. I think it would be potentially dangerous since most ICU patients are in a single room so you would have to go bach and forth between ICU patients and would be able to respond as quickly if something went sour.
