As newly appointed access coordinator for a large hospital based outpatient dialysis center, I am preparing to competency staff and choose "expert" cannulators to access new AVFs and deal with difficult accesses. My question is, what exactly is the criteria for an "expert". Everyone has isssues occasionally and everyone feels that they are great cannulators.

A few years ago we had some nurses that came from another facility. They showed us a new way of rinsing back a patient with a closed system. At the end of the treatment the machine is stopped and if the patient has an access other then a catheter you squeeze the saline bag to rinse back the arterial side of the machine and then with the arterial side clamped saline is run in through the machine so there is no blood in the system when you disconnect the patient.

HELLO TO ALL,
I AM NEW AT THIS, IT IS MY VERY 1ST BLOG. I NEED TO SHARE VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY, I WAS FORWARDED AN ARTICLE FROM PUBMED (PREPARING TO BLOW THE WHISTLE)(A SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR NURSES) POSTED 11/18/2011; JOURNAL OF NURSE PRACTITIONERS. 2011;7(9):740-746.
THIS ARTICLE SAVED ME FROM FURTHER HARM IN A UNFORTUNATE SITUATION THAT I AM CURRENTLY IN. i HOPE AND PRAY THAT THIS ARTICLE WILL PREVENT ALL NURSES FROM BEING PLACED IN A SITUATION, THAT WILL CAUSE HARM TO THEM AND POSSIBLE PATIENTS.

I have a question which i am sure someone can answer. Our chapter has been in risk of closing for several years. This year is the same. I am wondering how many officers we need to stay a float. I am thinking we need 3. But my question is what if no one wants to be president elect. can we have a president, secretary and treasure and no president elect?? would this work or do we need a president, president elect and then someone to be both secretary/treasure. i think i can get 3 people for sure for next year but i am not sure if we can get 4. and if we get three no one wants to be president elect. what do you all think.
