My name is Brandon Cary, and I have dedicated my career to nephrology nursing, with over 20 years of experience caring for patients with kidney disease across progressive clinical and leadership roles in outpatient hemodialysis. I began my journey in 2006 as a patient care technician, gaining nine years of hands-on clinical experience before becoming a registered nurse in 2015. Since then, I have served as a Charge Nurse and Clinical Coordinator, developing expertise in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, staff development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care. In 2018, I earned my Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) credential, reinforcing my commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
Throughout my career, I have discovered that my greatest passion lies in education, mentorship, and advancing the nursing profession. In addition to my clinical leadership responsibilities, I serve as an Associate Degree Nursing Peer Mentor and Tutor, supporting nursing students as they develop clinical judgment, confidence, and professional competence. I am also actively involved with the American Nephrology Nurses Association (ANNA) as the Health Policy Representative for the Baltimore Chapter and as a member of the Nephrology Nurses Culture, Community, and Connection Committee (NNCCC), where I advocate for policies that strengthen the nursing workforce and improve kidney care. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Nursing Education, with the goal of preparing the next generation of nurses, advancing evidence-based nephrology practice, improving patient outcomes, and contributing to the continued growth and excellence of the nursing profession.
