People who have antibodies against specific human leukocyte antigens (HLA) are at risk of rejection of the transplanted kidney if they receive a kidney with those antigens. The PRA measures the relative degree of sensitization by reacting recipient’s serum with a known panel of HLA typed donors who are representative of donor pools.  The PRA represents the percent of antibodies a candidate for transplant has against donor antigens.
