The donor organ is cooled during organ donor recovery surgery, rendering an ischemic state. The cold ischemic time begins during decreased blood perfusion or absent blood perfusion when the kidney is flushed with a cold preservation solution (in the donor). It ends when the kidney returns to a physiological temperature when the kidney is transplanted.  See also warm ischemic time.
