Kidney disease education

Final

Kidney Disease Education (KDE) is a reimbursable Medicare education benefit for patients with stage 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Beneficiaries are eligible for six, one hour group or individual sessions throughout their lifetime. A referral from a physician is required. The service is billable by a nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physician assistant, and physician. This Medicare benefit is a unique program that has the potential to inform patients and families about CKD and prepare them for transitions in health states and kidney health care.
