Intradialytic cardiac stunning is an ischemic mediated temporary reduction in cardiac function. Fluid removal greater than 13 mL/kg/hour during hemodialysis has been linked to increased risk of myocardial stunning. Myocardial stunning is associated with cardiovascular mortality, can occur at low ultrafiltration rates and is related to disrupted cardiac calcium channel physiology.
