Renal replacement therapy is a treatment modality to replace non-endocrine kidney function caused by acute or chronic kidney failure.  Other indications include electrolyte or acid-base abnormalities, fluid overload, and toxins or poisoning removable by dialysis. Therapies include intermittent hemodialysis, continuous hemofiltration and hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplant (Fleming, 2011).
