Do you ever feel that being an RN isn't what it use to be.  We can't make any decisions anymore!  We are watched more closely and have no critical thinking skill abilities?

There are things from the past that RN's used to do that I am glad that we no longer do...to include scrubbing hospital floors - grateful nursing isn't like it used to be. Nursing has to change to keep pace with the healthcare environment in which nursing is now practiced; however the basic tenets of nursing being a caring profession, I think has not changed. I am thankful for all the many nurses in diverse roles that make nursing the greatest profession. Thanks to the RN on the hill lobbying for the future of nursing, thanks to nurses at the beside working to care for the ill, and thank you for the nurse educators training the future generation of nurses. Nurses have the autonomy to learn as much as they desire thanks to today's technology. They can then use that education to advance their practice and bring about change in the workplace. We own our practice and how we develop our critical thinking skills. I am reminded of the quote that say "No one can make you feel inferior unless you give them permission". Stephen Covey reminds us to work within our circle of influence and exercise our power there. So keep your heart in nursing and your eye on the future and practice your best nursing everyday with integrity, excellence, and care
